The rest of May, 2020

Back in Stockholm and the areas around home. With the Tuesday club postponed due to Covid-19, mostly solo excursions. But I did find a group that still does trips (in small groups) and although it visited my home woods, I did get a better picture of the European crested tit.

April 2020

An unusually warm April got me out in nature a lot. Temperatures peaked at 20C, but now at the end of the month there is sleet. Here in Sweden we are encouraged to enjoy nature, despite the Corona virus, but to keep social distance – perfect for birding. The Tuesday club has been postponed, as has all other events.

Fiskgjusen och gäddan (The Osprey and the pike)

A trip to the Fysingen lake that is popular for waders, geese, etcetera. Among others we saw the first Barn swallow (Ladusvala), Redshank (Rödbena) and Oystercatcher (Strandskata) for the season but the highlight was the Osprey fishing and catching a pike. The distance was to long, so I missed the Eagle that interfered and made the Osprey drop its prey over the woods.

March, 2020

Another almost snow free winter with mild temperatures. Now, in March, I have started visiting the bird areas that are a bit more remote (but still in the wider Stockholm area). The early migrants are starting to appear.

Winter birds

This winter is weird, rarely any snow here in Stockholm and mainly plus (Celcius) degrees. Shallow lakes have been frozen over on and off, but the deeper ones been open.
